Week of November 11: Response to Annika

Hello Annika, I found the example of the Holocaust interesting. While there are differences between the two I can see the comparison. I also agree that if we had more documents about slavery would be such a great learning opportunity. With that, I am left wondering what we could possibly learn more about from these documents.

Week of November 11: Resistance within Assimilation

This week we talked about the dynamic between the owner and the slave and found it to be interesting. Throughout my education, I was always led to believe that the slaves had no power but in reality, they held quite a bit of it in the dynamic. This power came from their ability of resistance to become a slave. In class, we talked about the different ways they resisted such as suicide or not eating. But one that caught my eye was when we had the discussion about if helping others was a form of resistance or a form of assimilation. In my opinion, this is a form of resistance in assimilation. Scorpios are known to be determined, loyal, and honest. As I was reading, I kept wondering if our idea of the astrology signs came from Creole’s idea or at least had an influence on our views. I also found our discussion about Quilombo intriguing. All of our answers to the discussion question given were different. We talked about how within unity there is always going to be disunity and another group talked about how the disunity caused the fall of Palmares. I think everyone having a different perspective on the movie was a good t
