Week of February 24th: A Woman's Revolution As Well

In Professor Stark's part of the class, we got to talk about women who participated in the Mexican revolution. I found this topic interesting as even though we talked about women who transgressed their roles in the first semester that they even fought in the revolution. I also really enjoyed learning about their actual participation as the book and film we had for Serrata's class did not do justice to their roles. The movie, it showed women having a more domestic part in participating in the revolution. The book, while it had war paint, also didn't do justice as the book mainly talked about the violence and raping of women. Overall, it was nice to know that women played a role in the revolution and how they actually participated compared to what we see in movies and books.

  1. Hi, Jayden! I also found it great to learn more about the roles women played in the revolution and was surprised to find out they fought in the battles. It's always important to understand how women contributed to history since a lot of the time media never actually portrays them correctly and often oversexualize them.

  2. Hey, Jayden! It was very disappointing to witness how the women were betrayed in the movie and in the book we were assigned to watch/read. It can be very frustrating when producers represent certain figures in ways that aren't always true to their character or their history in their productions. That's the true blessing of this class; we get to discover some of the actual background information that is credible to the respective parties that are being represented and create our opinions and judgements from there.
